Subject: I promise to make this one short . . .
Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003
From: Michelle (Proctor) Van Sant

I promise I'll make this one A LOT shorter than the last one Brad! Since it doesn't look too promising for me to make it to the reunion, I thought I'd send a brief update on our family. Our second son is no longer living at home and has dropped out of high school. He is currently working at an auto salvage yard and comes around about every other week. Our daughter is doing fairly well physically and cognitively, but is still suffering some mental/emotional effects of the accident. She is just now beginning to deal with her brother's death.

Our youngest two are really keeping us hopping. They are in the 7th grade and involved in basketball, baseball, and soccer.

As for me, I'm still taking college classes and have managed a 3.59 GPA so far. I couldn't believe it for as long as I've been out of school! I should graduate with a Bachelor's in Business in May of 2004. I'm also working part-time for a local convenience store until I find another job, but the economy here in Iowa isn't too good right now. Steve's company has had four layoffs in two years, and the Maytag company in Newton has had about the same amount. They just laid off 124 employees a few weeks ago.

That's about all other than to say that I'd love to hear from any former classmates. I've conected via internet with a couple already.

Wow, can you imagine where the years went? After being such a wallflower, I became the poster child for stupidy in college where I did everything that I should not have did. No sex, but almost everything else that you can imagine After graduating seven years later, I was then qualified to work at Wendy's where I still work to this day. The dating has been great and hey, I get 6 bucks and hour to boot! I sometimes have had as many as two dates in one year! On the side, I have been working on my Master degree in psychology where I have been looking into. And yesterday, I met and married Barney Lipshitz, my gynocologist. Amazing!

Subject: thrilled to see some news
Date: Sun January 26, 2003
From: Marcie Lindley-Schlyer

It was a dark and windy night . . .and I was thrilled to see some news on the up and coming reunion. Would hate to miss this one as I have previously.

Update my oldest child has made me a grandmother again. Children what a blessing. She had a boy Oct 19th and named him Kaleb Damian. What a handful he can be for her. I guess mom has become so used to them there is no thought to it.

This list is growing nicely. Looking forward to seeing so many familiar faces again. Wishing all a wonderful day.

Subject: Just a quick update
Date: Sat January 25, 2003
From: Daren Matteson

I'm no longer at the Gang Task Force... My reason for taking that position was to eventually work into the PD Investigations unit and that happened sooner than I thought. It's a suit and tie job with midnight call-outs for rapes, robberies and murders... But, someone has to do it!

Also... With the move to investigations... A change in EMAIL address as well... pdinvestigations@hotmail.com

Hope all is well with all of you!

PS.... BRAD.... My daughter's favorite sport is still VOLLEYBALL!

Subject: Hello Fellow 78ers!
Date: Fri January 24, 2003
From: Jamie Cheney

My! It's been a long time! I can hardly believe my last day on campus was 25 years ago! It seems like yesterday....although I don't LOOK like it was yesterday! HA!

Life for me has been plugging right along. I've owned a few businesses, the last of which was a night club in Bakersfield, called (of course, haha!) Cheney's Cocktail Lounge. I didn't name it though, I'm not THAT vain! My ex is responsible for that one. Yes, my Ex...I've managed to rack up two of those over the last 20 years.(I don't think the first one counts though, HaHa!)

I sold my night club in 1999, (When I became single again, with no children) and moved to Whidbey Island Washington. It's a small Island on the northern-most tip of Washington, near Vancouver. (I call it Gilligan's Island) I truly love it here, although I do miss California from time to time. I don't think I can make the 25th reunion, (Not that anyone cares HaHa!) but did my best to participate from afar by creating the Reunion flyer web page.

I hope each and every one of you enjoy the reunion, and take great memories home with you!

Warmly, Jamie Cheney

Subject: Hi Brad -- Reunion news . . .
Date: Wed January 15, 2003
From: Danette (Hart) Bettencourt

Just got hooked up with the website, Robin (Doles) Mattos gave me the address and I have had a great time reading all the stories from Chapter 1 to present. As for me - I have been married to my husband Mike for 21 years. We have two children, Ashlee who is 19 and in her second year at Cal Poly to become a teacher and our son Jake who is 14 and in the 8th grade. I have worked for a Credit Union in Hanford for 22 years (since out of high school) and have recently moved to a new Credit Union in town as their Assistant Branch Manager. Mike has worked for Leprino Foods in Lemoore for the past 12 years. We have remained faithful to Hanford and love it here.

Now for reunion news.....
Tonight (1/15) was our first meeting for the 25 reunion. We are looking at the month of August, but no date has been set yet. It will probably be held at the Elks lodge. Nothing has been set in stone and our next meeting is 1/29. Between Robin and I, we will keep you posted. Talk to you soon.

Danette
