It was a dark and windy night . . .and I was sitting at home with
nothing to do, so I decided to check on our reunion status. I saw
the stories and couldn't help but read them all. I have been happily
married for 22 years. I still live in Hanford. I have 2 daughters,
Sara-age 20, Megan-age 18. The are both students at CSU Fresno. Megan
is studying to be a physical therapist and Sara is working on becoming
a school psychologist. Sara also works at Big 5 and is a soccer coach
for Hanford West High School. Megan works at the Bulldog shop in Fresno.
Megan was also Hanford West's First Homecoming Queen. I completed
my Masters degree in Special Education and I have worked for the past
4 years with some very unique students. My husband, Rick, is Manager
of a small store in Hanford. I didn't attend the 20th because I was
out of town but I look forward to seeing everyone at the 25th.

Subject: Hello, hello!

From: Tom Buford
I suppose I should write something, as I've enjoyed everyone else's
stories, so here goes...
Brenda (White) Buford and I have been happily married for 21 years
now. We have two great daughters - Jessica (12 y/o) and Victoria (9
y/o). We've been in Lemoore since 1987, and are quite the happy Tigers
(glad to here Darren converted too).
After HUHS, I attended UOP in Stockton, CA and graduated in '83 as
a Pharmacist. Brenda graduated from COS' RN program in '80. We were
married in April, 1981. After pharmacy school, we moved to Porterville,
where we lived and worked for about 4 years. We then moved to Lemoore,
where we had purchased Leoni Pharmacy. For those who might visit,
the store is located in downtown Lemoore on the corner of D Street
& Heinlen St. and we make some seriously good fudge in the store.
I am currently on the Lemoore City Council, serving as Mayor Pro-Tem
(great title, no extra pay), and I'm enjoying almost all of it. It
really is remarkable how newspapers can screw up almost any story...
I must say the best part of staying so close to home is being able
to be so close to family. When we chose to move back closer to home,
both Brenda's and my parents were living in Hanford, as was my grandfather,
two of my three brothers (the third brother lived in Lemoore), and
one of Brenda's brothers lived in Hanford too. And living in Lemoore
now is a lot like being in Hanford way back, since Hanford's population
is knocking at 50,000! Lemoore's only around 19,000 so it really is
about the right size.
Brenda & I have attended all the reunions - yep, the 5, 10, 15,
& 20 - and enjoyed them all. It would be nice, though, to have
the rest of you who have been (or are) scattered far and wide attend
the next!
Take care all!

Well, where do I start? After spending some time around Hanford after
graduation I went ahead and took the same route as my fellow Armona
Parkview/Hanford High Graduates, Mr.Gary Trammel & Mr. Rick Snow,
and joined the military. I have a couple of more years before I retire.
I have been stationed at numerous places both here and abroad. My
wife Betty and I have seen our one and only Daughter fly the coop
and is now raising a family of her own in Kentucky. Her husband also
being in the military. I am now currently living in Phoenix,Az.
I had the opportunity to attend the first graduating class of Hanford
West High School to witness my niece graduate. As I was reading over
some of the last names listed in the program, I just KNEW some of
them had to be the children of my fellow graduates. It did my heart
good knowing that alot of you stuck around the ol' home town. The
only reunion I was able to attend was our five year. I look forward
to attending the 25 year reunion. I will continue to check this site
for further updates. So 'til next time fellow Bullpups!

Subject: It's been a LONG time
Date: Tue, May 28, 2002
From: Michelle (Shelly Proctor)

It's been a LONG time since I've seen or heard from anyone in the
class of '78! A lot has happened in my life over the last 20 years.
(I hate to say it, but it's closer to 30 now!)
I married and had five children, Brandon(18), Brett(17), Breighann(14),
Bradley(12), and Brayden(12).
My husband was a school teacher for the first twelve years of our
marriage and I spent most of my time being a stay-at-home mom. (How
I long for those days now!)
As a teacher, my husband moved us around the country several times.
We first started at Hanford Christian, then moved to Central Valley
Christian in Visalia. From there we went to Conrad, Montana, New Holland,
South Dakota, and Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Conrad was a town of about
3000 people, New Holland had about 100 people, (no joke!) Fort Lauderdale
put me into culture shock after spending 6 years in such small communities.
After leaving Fort Lauderdale, we moved here to Sully, my husband's
home town. He is now employed at Vermeer Manufacturing in the Parts
Distribution Center as a Lead Person in the shipping department.
I spent the first eight years we were here staying home, taking care
of children, and "cutting" lace for Heritage Imports of Pella. (If
any of you have seen Pella Windows and Doors, Sully is about 20 miles
north of Pella.) The last two years, I have worked in the kitchen
of the local public school.
This year has been quite difficult for us as we lost our oldest son
in a car accident on February 21. He would have been 19 on the 24th
of February.
He was taking his sister and one of her friends to his high school
for orientation and they hit a patch of "black ice" and slid into
the path of another car. Brandon was killed instantly, Breighann had
severe head trauma and almost died in the Pella hospital. Because
of the weather, she could not be life-flighted but had to be taken
to Des Moines by ambulance, (about an hour's ride if your going the
speed limit). She spent almost four weeks in the hospital, and we
are still going through many therapies. She is doing extremely well
for all she's been through, she even collected Brandon's diploma at
his graduation ceremony. She won't talk about him or the accident
though. They didn't ride the bus that day because she didn't want
to look geeky to her friends, so I think she blames herself to some
degree.
Thankfully, Breighann's friend was barely hurt, just a gash in the
knee. She saw alot more of the accident than Breighann did though,
so she is having alot of nightmares.
A teacher from the school that I work at was also involved, and he
is having alot of nightmares also. The way we found out about the
accident was through the school that I work at. Matt had called in
to say he was going to be late and when the principal heard who was
involved, he put two and two together and called me in to tell me.
We never heard from the police until way later in the day. Nice, huh?
Anyway, didn't mean to go on so much about that. It's just still
so fresh. Brandon's high school graduation and Breighann's 8th grade
graduation were both this past week, so there were alot of emotions.
After the accident, I started taking college business courses from
a local college that has a curriculum for working adults. I was looking
in to it before the accident, and afterwards I was going to forget
about it. (I have an AA from COS in Early Childhood Education, but
there isn't much call for it around here.)
Brandon was what most of us would call a "computer geek" or a nerd,
and he was getting so excited about the fact that mom was going to
get a laptop through this program. Someone outside the family told
me that if I didn't continue to pursue this, it would be a slap in
the face to his memory. Hence, as you can see, I pursued it with the
okay from my husband. I think we're both wondering what we got ourselves
into. This is a very accelerated course with most of the classes lasting
five weeks.
Since we are in the Computers and Technology class right now, we
needed the Internet. That was another thing Brandon had been excited
about. We had not had it at home before because he and mom would never
get off the computer if we did, we always went either to the town's
library or to Pella's library both of which give you time restrictions.
One night after everyone had gone to bed, I was playing with the
laptop, connected to the Internet. I decided to type in Hanford Joint
Union High School as a search word just for the fun of it. Low and
behold up came the class reunion page. What a great surprise!
I had a lot of fun reading the different stories, and was awed to
see Darren Matteson's name. He and I were the only two Freshman in
Campus Life that year, remember Darren? I still remember getting sick
over having to drink a 16 ounce bottle of hot Pepsi!
I didn't see any stories from them, but I saw Larry Dunn and Thom
Black's addresses on that page. They were good friends too, especially
Larry. And, Nina Jones and Danny Burgess as well as another person,
(whose name I can't recall), from the class have their address listed
in Crecsent City. My mom and dad live in McKinleyville, about an hour
south of there. Whenever we go to visit them, we end up there at least
once. We also like to go to Patrick's Point!
With finances the way they are and having had five kids, we didn't
get to California much. (Vermeer had cut back to 32 hours.) My father-in-law
passed away two years ago, (also as the result of a car accident,
however, he spent five months in the hospital before he died), and
with the inheritance my husband got, we went to California. My husband
tried to see my parent's, my grandma (lives by Yosemite), by brother
(in Sovang),go through Disneyland, and do this all justice in just
eleven days. The first and last days were spent on the airplanes,
before September 11 thankfully! Then, of course, it took several days
to travel to and from McKinleyville. (We flew in to the Eureka/Arcata
airport.) That was the first time we had been back to California in
eight years; I'm just glad that Brandon got to see my family before
he died. (He and Brett were both born in Visalia at Kaweah Delta,
so we also went through there to show the kids where we used to live.)
Anyway, didn't mean for this to become an epistle, but I didn't make
it to any of the reunions, so figured I needed to cover the last twenty
years, (or did I?)
If anyone from Hanford High, (California, not Washington), sees this
I'd love to hear from you. Our address is 601 10th Ave., Sully, IA
50251 and our e-mail address is steveshell@netins.net.
Hope to hear from you!

It was a dark and windy night . . .and then I left for the Military,
served 16 yrs and then had a medical retirement. I do not need to
work but our only son, William, has been accepted at Cal Poly (SLO)
so I may earn a few dollars until he graduates. William is the Valedictorian
for the first graduating class of Hanford West (Huskies) those of
you in hanford probably know the new way they set the east and west
campuses into seperate schools each with their own mascot and administration
etc. My wife Carletta is an at home medical transcriptionist, and
Hanford class of 82 graduate. I, like Daryl Parker, have never been
to a reunion and feel it would be an awesome emotional enjoyable experience.
Pls put our name on the list for the upcoming one, thnx

It was a dark and windy night . . .and no one really noticed me.....LOL.
At least not then.
Just an update of where I am now. I have moved to Panama City, Florida.
For those of you who remember me and my outlandish and outspoken mother
(yeah the crazy lady) she passed away last April. Thus as luck would
have it my husband was retired from the service and we moved here
where there is no state taxation.LOL
This place has a tendency to remind me of Hanfords' laid back sunny
days. Mind you our beaches were usually a river or canal--lol! But
alas nothng compares to those days of fun and sun in the company of
good friends regardless their nuttiness.
Hope to see some of you next year. Till then Happy days and will be
thinking of all of you.

Hey Brad, Glad to see you have continued with the web page. I left
Petaluma, CA in 99 headed for the "Great State of Texas". My wife,
Suzy, and I
decided that if we didn't absolutely hate El Paso, that this would
be the last move for us until the kids finish school. Our oldest,
James, is a Freshman at UT Dallas this year. Mike is a Sophomore in
high school and Alex is an 8th grader. Suzy and I have been married
19 years today(April 15th). I will be putting in my retirement papers
soon provided things don't get any more complicated in the Middle
East. I am keeping my fingers crossed anyway. Looking forward to the
25th next summer and wanted to update my info:
