The idea for this scholarship fund came in July 2008 from members of the Kings County Democratic Central Committee who wanted to acknowledge Si Lakritz for his 50 years of educational, political, and community service in Hanford. After an inaugural fund raising event in 2008 the scholarship fund was created by the Lakritz family through the Hanford Joint Union High School District.
To date we have awarded a total of $6,000.00 in scholarships to seven students.
The Lakritz Family Scholarship is given in honor of Si & Mimi Lakritz. Graduating students from any high school in the Hanford Joint Union High School District may apply. In June 2009 we awarded $500.00 scholarships to two students heading off to college. In 2010 we awarded three $1,000.00 scholarships! In 2011 we awarded two $1,000.00 scholarships.
